Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Domestic violence thrives when we are silent; but if we take a stand and work together, we can end domestic violence. Throughout the month of October, help the Utah Domestic Violence Coalition to raise awareness about domestic violence and join in our efforts to end violence.

Kick off Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Sept 30th!

Join us for "1 in 3" Stories of Domestic Violence in Utah

The Utah Domestic Violence Coalition presents an evening of storytelling to raise awareness of the implications and effects of domestic violence in our community, hosted by Giuliana Serena of The Bee.

Domestic and intimate partner violence impacts the lives of thousands of Utahns each year, and this special event will provide our community an opportunity to see and hear from survivors themselves. These stories will encourage us to think critically and take action; Storytelling is one of the most effective means we have to relate to and learn from one another, and this powerful night will offer a significant contribution to the conversation in our home state.

Please join us in solidarity and support of survivors and the UDVC.

Help us recognize our champions!

Utah Domestic Violence Coalition (UDVC) seeks the public's help in recognizing local Advocacy, Collaboration and Education (ACE) champions – key individuals who have gone above and beyond to advocate, collaborate and educate within our communities, supporting the work on the ground to prevent and to end abuse and violence in Utah.

Utahns are encouraged to nominate any person or organization they believe fits this criteria. Nominations must be submitted to Jenn Oxborrow, at UDVC by September 20.

UDVC's Board of Directors will review all nominations and announce the three (3) ACE award recipients at the Domestic Violence Awareness Month Kick Off event on September 30.

Who is UDVC?

The Utah Domestic Violence Coalition is non-government organization representing a team of victim service providers working to serve survivors of domestic and sexual violence across Utah.  The UDVC is a private non-profit organization and we have been working with our team of primary purpose, non-profit victim service providers to prevent and address domestic violence in Utah for over 30 years.

What does "1 in 3" mean?

The UDVC's 'Utah 1 in 3' campaign is raising awareness that intimate partner violence is a preventable public health issue in Utah, and that free, confidential help is available 24/7 through their member programs. One in three women in Utah will experience domestic violence in her lifetime.  We know we can work together to prevent and end these tragedies.

Finding Help:

Utah currently has no dedicated state funding to support survivor services or DV prevention.  Consequently, resources are limited but help is always available at 800-897-5465 where trained, Victim Advocates answer calls confidentially, connecting people with resources and safety in their communities.  Each year, UDVC member programs provide over 100,000 nights of emergency shelter to men, women and children who are survivors of intimate partner violence in Utah.  Our team answers over 43,000 crisis calls each year.
