What can leadership skills lend to your advocacy work?

As advocates working in the field of intimate partner violence, we perform many tasks and take on a number of roles in our daily service of survivors.  One role we may not anticipate, which can sometimes feel at odds with our commitment to empowerment, is the role of leading.

Advocacy and leadership have much in common!  Our advocacy message can be honed and strengthened by strengthening our ability to engage in the proven techniques of effective leadership. After all, as advocates, we are often seeking to effect a change or a shift in perception, policy or practice to better the outcomes for survivors.

Join us on August 24th for a variety of presentations focused
on equipping us with key leadership concepts and
techniques to utilize in our daily advocacy work.

Strengthen your ability to collaborate and balance
conflicting interests at the community level.

Learn how to inspire your team, your partners, your community
to envision and promote meaningful, significant change.

This training is provided at no cost to UDVC member programs and community partners.

Registration in advance of the event is required to ensure we can comfortably accommodate everyone.

2016 Leadership Forum Details

Who should attend?

This Forum is open to everyone interested in improving intervention and prevention efforts to reduce the incidence of Intimate Partner Violence. We have purposefully sought out a range of speakers with varied experience in leadership and details of the line up can be found on the UDVC website. The day will be of interest and use to advocates at all levels of experience!

From the newest advocate to the most experienced leader, attendees will come away with techniques to practice and core knowledge about how to map out a personal development plan for the future.

We are delighted to stage this year’s UDVC Leadership Forum in the newly opened Marmalade Library in Salt Lake City which boasts a multipurpose room on the second floor that is ideal for this type of event.  The library is located at 280 West, 500 North in Salt Lake and is easily accessible by car and public transport. On-street parking is available on 500 North and 300 West, and UTA routes offer service with stops immediately in front of the Library on 300 West.

Registration will open at 9:30 am. The event will commence at 10 am and close at 4 pm. There are many great restaurants in the Marmalade District and attendees will be responsible for lunch on their own.
