Statewide Needs Assessment
About the Assessments
Every few years, the UDVC, in collaboration with community partners, conducts statewide needs assessments to evaluate the status of domestic violence services in Utah. Recent assessments were completed in 2016/17, 2021/22, and 2023/24.
The primary goals of these assessments are to:
- Review the structure and effectiveness of domestic violence response systems across Utah.
- Provide insights into the needs of individuals impacted by domestic violence and the current state of service delivery.
- Identify service gaps and barriers to accessing support.
- Strengthen understanding from both service providers’ and individuals’ perspectives.
Each report supplements information from other sources, highlighting critical areas of need and offering valuable reference points for service planning, policy development, and funding priorities.
Purpose and Impact
The assessments support:
- Informing discussions among planners, funders, and decision-makers.
- Planning services that address immediate and long-term needs.
- Prioritizing services to maximize their impact for those seeking support.
- Designing content, location, and methods for future training and outreach efforts.
- Sharing findings with professionals in mental health, healthcare, law enforcement, and judicial sectors to strengthen coordinated responses.
These assessments aim to elevate the real experiences of individuals navigating domestic violence services and ensure that future planning reflects community needs.
